Drama and Soaps - Ripper Street

At first there is a sound of ambiance in a street outside, following this quickly is the sound of a horses clop on a cobble road this connotes the time in which the drama is set in. Following that is a deep synthesised bass with a low end register and gives off the idea that something isn't quite right in this place. A bell chime in the background gives us the feeling that we're supposed to be alarmed. An eerie lack of noise is heard when people are talking as there are no cars to cover up dialogue. Crackling of fire makes the audience feel as if they're in a cold place, and also reinforces our belief of it being set in the olden days.
A crunchy bass sound acts like a sting to open up the soundtrack behind it, this is used to make us feel aware if we were not and acts as a opening to a new scene. The clangs of items and iron objects provides us with the knowledge that things were not as convenient in those times, there was not a lot of other materials we could use for our daily uses. We hear the cracking of punches ...

Horror/ action audio review

Let me in (Horror)

In the opening we hear a heartbeat slowed down and low register it has a deep dark sinister feel to it making the audience aware. Deep slow bass soundtrack is a code for horror and this specific audience will de code this and understand what genre it is. This makes us feel that there are lives at stake, draws our attention in to whats happening next and eager to watch. We then hear a fog horn, this tells us we're in an open area and that there is bad weather conditions, this has an impact on the audience as they feel a sense of danger.

As the visual focusses in on ambulances from a wide shot, we hear that a siren is on, this is now a definite indicator that there is someone that's in trouble or is badly hurt. We as the audience now feel on edge to what is going on as we dont know the condition of this person. Rain pours down on the road as the ambulances engine revs hard and fast. Wind whistling through our ears as we develop a great sense of eeriness. It is clear that it's a life or death situation as we know how fast they are going to reach the sanctuary of the hospital.

We then get sound from inside the vehicle, establishing where we are with the sounds of the equipment heavy breathing suggests that the person is finding he's not get enough oxygen and creates a sense of panic in the scene, there is our first spot of dialogue which is a radio in the ambulance then followed shortly by a piece of dialogue thats seems as if it's mostly improvised, it is a 'Hey hey hey hey!' as if the person in distress is causing a threat, this creates question and leaves us still unknowing, the person in trouble is struggling and we here that he is bound to the hospital bed by hand cuffs as they rattle. Radio operator explains to the remote hospital what the condition of the man is, this creates wonder in our head as we have not yet seen him yet, this creates authenticity during the scene. Metallic hand cuffs rattle giving coherence to the shots and gives us more of a question to whether this person is a friend or foe. Emotional effects are reinforced by sound as he lets out a guttural gasp for air, normally this is a code for dying or giving up.

We're now in a hospital, the green low key lighting creates a spooky scene that horror audiences come to expect. We hear near silence as a detectives footsteps echo down the hall, as we enter the patiants room we here respiratory machines, the nurse declares that he is unfit to have an interview with him.
